the tree of Salzburg

The branch of Salzburg

In early times the locals in Salzburg dropped a branch into the salt mines. After 3 months the branch was taken out again; covered with millions of salt crystals. This story is used as a metaphor by the French author Stendhal in his novel " about love; the 7 stadia of love". The people of Salzburg hoped to find a diamond as small as the leg of a little bird in-between the crystals.Carel Lanters translated this story into a large and monumental sculpture that changes all the day and night.
